About Me

I am a certified birth doula, certified postpartum doula, certified lactation counselor, certified childbirth educator,  certified aromatherapist, certified herbalist, living in and serving the Philadelphia, PA area.

I am an older doula, so if you are looking for someone with more life experience and maturity, I am the one for you! My clients have told me they feel very mothered by me, which is great, since being a doula is all about mothering the mother! I have three, wonderful, grown, children who are all out on their own now, so it’s me and my Golden Retriever and Tortie! This is nice because it gives me a lot of flexibility to work!

My Birth Philosophy

My birth philosophy is that if a laboring women is left undisturbed, her body will know how to birth her baby (barring any medical emergency for mom or babe).  However, I would like to add that it really doesn’t matter what my personal philosophy is, because when I am working with a birth client, it is all about what her philosophy is and what she wants for her birth. I will support whatever educated decision that my clients make as far as how they want to birth their baby!

What is a postpartum sealing ceremony?
Also called “closing the bones”, a postpartum sealing ceremony is a beautiful way to mark the transition into motherhood. In fact, this is considered essential postpartum care in many cultures. Birth is a process of opening to allow new life to enter the world. The shift from pregnancy to postpartum is sudden and dramatic, without a moment of pause to catch your breath and integrate this transformative experience. It’s no wonder that many new moms find themselves feeling raw and vulnerable. A postpartum sealing ceremony provides closure to the intense openness of the birth experience, on a physical, psychological, and spiritual level. It can take place anytime during the first 40 days after birth.
What happens during the ceremony?
The ceremony takes approximately 3 hours to complete. You have the option to customize it however you like. The usual structure of the ceremony goes something like this:

Ceremonial bath / yoni steam
Depositphotos_5446265_original – I will draw a bath for you with healing herbs and minerals to replenish and soothe the body. Another option is a yoni steam, a traditional vaginal steam treatment using the same types of herbs. This warming energy is beneficial for postpartum recovery, and spending time in the water allows you to reconnect with the watery energy of the womb. It can be an opportunity for some alone time, or for a “rebirthing” ceremony with your baby if there was anything disappointing about your original birth experience. As you emerge from your bath, hold the intention that you are being reborn, new and fully integrated.
Moxibustion – Moxibustion is a technique used in Chinese medicine and acupuncture to bring healing warmth to the body. A stick of moxa (Chinese mugwort) is lit and brought close to the skin over your womb and sacrum to provide heat, which is then massaged inward to be absorbed by the body.
Massage – Massage is a wonderful way to pamper yourself and honor the incredible strength it took to carry your child into the world. Massage during the postpartum period helps with relaxation, improves circulation, reduces swelling, and relieves aches and pains. It can also help with postpartum mood disorders and increase breastfeeding success. For the massage piece, you have a choice of a male licensed massage therapist, who will charge $50 for a 50 minute, full body, massage or a female licensed massage therapist who will charge $110 for one hour of bodywork. This price will be included in your total.
Tucking In and Blessings – Following birth, the body and its energy centers remain open until consciously closed. “Tucking in” or “closing the bones” is a way to ritually seal the body and attain closure from the birth experience. I will wrap your body with ceremonial cloths at the ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, and head to close the major energy centers of the body. I use sage and rose water to clear away negativity, then balance your chakras with Reiki energy therapy.

It is recommended to do the full ceremony five times during the first 14-40 days.

5 Ways to Save Money with a New Baby   The first way that comes to mind is by using cloth diapers. I had a postpartum doula client in the city who was using a diaper service for cloth diapers, and we did the math and this is what we came up with: Her service cost $22.50 per week for 85 diapers. I then looked at Pampers, and for 88 disposable diapers, it was 32.00, so that is about a $10.00 savings per week. The second way of saving money with a new baby is to breastfeed! There is not cost to it and you will have a much healthier mom and babe. The cost for Similac formula right now
